The Treatment Gap
Since the 1950's when the field of
sleep medicine was in its infancy, there has been a vast increase in the
amount of research on sleep and its disorders as well as an incredible
boom in the number of effective treatments for sleep disorders. Yet,
despite the dramatic increase in sleep knowledge, the
benefits from this knowledge still have not helped many Americans who
suffer needlessly from sleep disorders. This disparage between the
patients who benefit from current sleep knowledge and those who have yet
to benefit is called the treatment gap.
